Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started working as a TV and radio reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. She was promoted to Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. In 1981, she began covering the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. Mitchell became the Chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She was a member of a panel for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Mitchell covered a range of interesting stories such as arms control the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell went on numerous trips along with President Reagan to meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
